Notification and email preferences
Rubric sends two kinds of email. Transactional emails, such as receipts and the note that your report is ready, always send, because they confirm something you did. Product emails and watch-list alerts are optional and toggle in Account > Notifications. Every marketing email also carries an unsubscribe link at the foot.
- →Transactional emails (receipts, report-ready) always send and cannot be switched off.
- →Product emails and watch-list alerts are optional, in Account > Notifications.
- →Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Which emails does Rubric always send?
Transactional emails always send, because each one confirms an action on your account. These include your payment receipts and the message telling you a report has finished and is ready to read. Rubric cannot turn these off, because they are the record of something you asked for, such as a charge or a completed crawl. They are not marketing, so they have no unsubscribe link.
What is the difference between transactional and marketing emails?
A transactional email confirms an action on your account, such as a payment receipt or the note that a report is ready. It always sends, because it is a record of something you did, and it has no unsubscribe link. A marketing or product email is optional: it tells you about Rubric, new checks or tips, and it always carries an unsubscribe link.
| Transactional | Product and marketing | |
|---|---|---|
| Examples | Receipts, report-ready notices | Product updates, tips, new-check news |
| Can you turn it off? | No, it always sends | Yes, in Account > Notifications or via unsubscribe |
| Has an unsubscribe link? | No | Yes |
This is why unsubscribing never stops your receipts: unsubscribe only ever applies to the optional stream.
Which emails can I turn off?
Two kinds are optional and are controlled in Account > Notifications:
| Email type | What it is | Where to change it |
|---|---|---|
| Product emails | Updates about Rubric, new checks and tips | Account > Notifications |
| Watch-list alerts | A note when a watched site's score or checks change | Account > Notifications |
Turn either off and Rubric stops sending it. Watch-list alerts are gated on these preferences, so if you have turned notifications off, a watched site will still be re-checked but you will not be emailed about the change.
Where do I change my preferences?
Go to Account > Notifications. That page holds the toggles for product emails and watch-list alerts. Change a toggle and it takes effect from the next email; there is nothing to save separately. Your transactional emails are not listed there, because they always send. The toggles apply to the account, so a change covers every optional email that account receives, and it holds across every site you have added to your Watch list rather than being set per site.
How do I unsubscribe from marketing emails?
Every marketing email has an unsubscribe link at the foot. Click it to stop that stream without touching the rest of your account. You can also switch product emails off in Account > Notifications, which does the same thing from inside the app. Unsubscribing from marketing does not affect transactional emails: you still get receipts and report-ready notices, because those confirm actions you took.
